Why Now?
Emporball was established out of necessity over the past two years. Through the COVID-19 pandemic society saw more and more social activities cancelled and personal interactions were few and far between. This left recreational sports non-existent in Ontario. With the inability to interact came the climbing numbers of mental health issues amongst various populations. Statistics Canada reported that “As the pandemic continues to evolve, new results show that the self-rated mental health (SRMH) decreased between fall 2020 and early 2022”.[ii]
As the dust of the pandemic settles and restrictions are lifted, Emporball has emerged to fill a much-needed gap in the youth recreational sports community. The purpose served by Emporball is to ensure that Ontario youth and adolescents have access to recreational sports in order to improve their mental wellness.
